These programs can make natural gas and electric bills more affordable for lower income families.
Application period for both programs is November 1-April 30. Website can assist with income eligibility limitations and application for both programs.

This program helps people going through short-term financial problems. To qualify, you must show a history of paying your bills on time and that something has happened that keeps you from paying now. If you receive LIHEAP and USF, you are not eligible. Once approved, you can get up to $1,000 to pay your gas and/or electric bills. NJ SHARES accepts applications all year.


3. NJ Lifeline: 800-792-9745 Program is through PSE&G.
NJ Lifeline is a $225 yearly credit for your electric or gas bill. You must be 65-years old, or a disabled adult at least 18 years old who is receiving Social Security Disability benefits. Income eligibility effective January 1, 2007 is as follows: $22,572 for single persons and $27,676 for married persons. For an application you may write to:

Citizen's Energy
4. Citizen's Energy/CITGO Oil Heat Program: 1-877-563-4645

This program provides heating oil to families who are either on some sort of energy assistance and have exhausted their benefits or are in a low income bracket and just need a little extra help. Call the toll free number for an application to be sent to you beginning in November.
